PRK and Advanced Surface Ablation
Serving Los Angeles and Orange County California
PRK is a traditional way of treating refractive errors and has been used by doctors all over the country. During Photo-Refractive Keratectomy, Dr. Khanna will remove tissue from the surface of the cornea and reshape the cornea according to your refractive error using the excimer laser. As the first procedure designed to take advantage of laser technology to treat refractive error, PRK is the procedure of choice for many. Generally, patients with lower refractive errors make the best candidates for PRK.
PRK lasts only minutes per eye and does not require the use of a microkeratome.
If you may not be a good candidate for LASIK, PRK can offer a solution for quick
vision improvement.
In addition to PRK, Dr. Khanna also offers Advanced Surface Ablation. Advanced Surface Ablation uses a special instrument called epithelial scrubber to remove the surface layer. This is followed by Wavefront laser ablation. Topical nonsteroidal and steroidal drops and bandage lens help alleviate any pain and lead to good long term outcomes.
Dr. Khanna may use use Mitomycin as a preventative measure against corneal haze following the surgery.
