What is ReSTOR®?
AcrySof's ReSTOR® lens is an FDA-approved intraocular lens (IOL) used in cataract surgery to replace the eye's natural lens when it becomes cloudy. In most cases, the ReSTOR® IOL allows post-operative cataract patients to enjoy everyday activities like reading, driving or playing cards with friends, without glasses or bifocals. ReSTOR® is a multifocal lens, meaning that it provides sight for near, distance and intermediate vision. Previous lenses for cataract surgery only corrected for distance vision, and after surgery patients still required glasses for some activities like reading.

Cataract patients wishing to be independent from glasses after their cataract procedures.
What can I expect during the procedure?
Cataract surgery with the ReSTOR® IOL is like any other cataract surgery. The procedure will be done in a surgery center; or even in Khanna institute's office based surgery center. You will be awake and given numbing drops to anesthetize the surface of your eye. A very small incision will be made and through a process called phacoemulsification, your old lens will be removed and the new ReSTOR® lens put in its place. You will be able to go home shortly after the procedure but will need someone to drive you home.To achieve the best vision with the ReSTOR® lens, both eyes need to be done.
What can I expect after the procedure?
You will be sent home with instructions on how and when to use the eye drops your doctor gives you and will see your doctor the following day for your first post-op check up. After your cataract procedure, you can expect to return to your normal life within a day or two in most circumstances.
In the clinical studies, 94% of participants said they would have the procedure again, 84% of them had 20/25 or better vision for distance and 80% said they never needed reading glasses or bifocals after the procedure.
How long will it last?
As cataracts will not form in an artificial lens, a ReSTOR® IOL is considered a permanent solution.
Is ReSTOR® covered by insurance?
Partially. Medicare and other insurance plans will typically cover a medically necessary cataract procedure with a non-multifocal lens. If you choose a multifocal lens, like ReSTOR®, then you must pay the difference between what insurance will reimburse and the extra cost of the multifocal lens. However, if the procedure is not medically necessary for cataracts, you will be responsible for the entire cost. Financing with reasonable monthly payments is available to make the cost of the procedure fit into almost any budget.
