The ReSTOR lens is an intricate lens that is inserted during cataract surgery. The Restor lens provides vision from all distances and allows for patients to see clearly without the use of glasses. Before surgery your doctor will evaluate your eyes and customize the lens to your lifestyle and vision needs. One's eyes are constantly adjusting to different light intensities and varying distances. This ability to change distance and focus is known as accommodation. As one ages this quality diminishes and the need for glasses increases.

Restor combines apodized and refractive technology to drastically improve one's vision. Advanced apodization technology improves image and vision quality. This technology was first discovered and used in the development of microscopes; now a similar technology is used in the ReSTOR lens. The apodizing technology is the gradual tapering of the diffractive steps from the center to the outside edge of a lens to create a smooth transition of light between the distance, intermediate and near focal points. Diffraction involves the bending or spreading of light to multiple focal points as it passes through the lens The ReSTOR lens consist of both apodized and diffractive zones that work to focus light for near and distance vision. Throughout our lives we are constantly focusing on objects at various distances, our ability to quickly change focus is known as accommodation. The Restor 3 D is a further advancement on this technology. Asphericity added to the lens gives clearer distance vision. It eliminates the waxy vision observed with the early generation Restor lenses.

The power of the reading components is decreased from 4 diopters to 3 diopters. This allows the patients to read at a more comfortable distance. The number of apodized steps is decreased from 9 to 6, reducing the glare first observed with these lenses. This is a great lens if you want to have great distance and near vision and want to be glasses free at all distances. Hence it’s a great choice both after cataract and PRELEX surgery.
