Presbyopic Lens Exchange (PRELEX) is a refractive eye procedure in which the natural lens of the eye is replaced with an artificial lens that corrects presbyopia. It's the same sort of procedure as is done for people with cataracts, where the natural lens has clouded up, and is replaced by an artificial lens such as ReSTOR®.
PRELEX is a good choice if:
- You do not medically qualify for LASIK or other refractive surgery
- You have early signs of cataracts
- You'd like to depend less on bifocals or reading glasses
- You are severely nearsighted or farsighted
Advantages of PRELEX
Almost all people who have PRELEX will need no glasses for distance vision. Most will need none for reading either. Cataracts are prevented, as they cannot form in an artificial lens.
