PRK and Advanced Surface Ablation
Serving Los Angeles and Orange County California
PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) is a traditional way of treating refractive errors, and has been used by doctors all over the world. During a PRK procedure, Dr. Khanna will remove tissue from the surface of your cornea and reshape the cornea according to your refractive error. This is all accomplished using the state-of-the-art VISX Excimer Laser.
If you are not a good candidate for LASIK eye surgery, Dr. Khanna may recommend PRK as an alternative. Generally, patients with lower refractive errors make the best candidates for PRK. PRK lasts only minutes per eye, and does not require the use of a microkeratome.
Advanced Surface Ablation
In addition to PRK, Dr. Khanna also offers Advanced Surface Ablation. This procedure uses a special instrument called an epithelial scrubber to remove the surface layer of your cornea. This is followed by Wavefront laser ablation. Topical nonsteroidal and steroidal drops, along with a bandage lens, help alleviate any pain and facilitate healing. PRK can provide excellent results on par with LASIK.
