Crystalens Artificial Lens Replacement for Cataracts
Serving Orange County, California and Surrounding Communities
Your vision typically remains stable until you reach your mid to late 40s. At that time, the natural crystalline lenses of your eyes begin to gradually enlarge and harden. Soon after, your eyes may eventually develop cataracts. Cataracts are a progressive condition where your eye's lens becomes cloudy, and eventually opaque, resulting from the buildup of dead tissue cells retained within the capsule of the lens. If the cataracts are severe enough, your ophthalmologist may recommend cataract surgery with crystalens artificial lens replacement.
Symptoms of cataracts include:
- Gradual deterioration of vision over time
- Objects appearing dull, hazy, blurred or distorted
- Reduced night vision
- Glares may appear in bright light or sunshine
- Halos around lights, especially at night
- White, blue, and purple objects may seem gray
- Loss of the ability to focus on near objects
The crystalens is the first intraocular lens (IOL) designed for cataracts while also providing accommodation. A new intraocular lens (Crystalens) is the first to offer cataract patients in the United States a full range of vision that closely mimics the action of the eye's natural lens that is removed and replaced during surgery.
The crystalens is a new technology specifically designed to mimic your eye's natural ability to focus on distant, middle, and near objects. The crystalens can restore your full range of functional vision after cataract surgery. Standard (single vision) lens implants do not have the ability to provide a full range of vision. Most people who have single vision lens implants must continue to wear glasses for middle and near vision. The crystalens provides you the ability to focus on objects, at varying distances, by using your eye's natural muscle. The crystalens gives you sharper vision, throughout a full range of vision, without the need for corrective lenses by mimicking the natural focusing ability of your eye.
Cataracts usually develop in both eyes. If only one eye has a cataract, you will only require one implant. An hour before your procedure, you arrive at one of our offices in Orange County, CA, where we apply topical drops in your eye, which anesthetizes your eye and dilates your pupil. You may also be administered oral sedatives.
The actual eye surgery takes less than a half hour. Our eye surgeon (ophthalmologist) will stabilize your eye with a device designed to keep your eyelids open. Your eye surgeon will make a small incision in your eye, remove your natural lens, and insert your crystalens.
After your crystalens cataract surgery in our comfortable Orange County eyecare office, you will receive additional eye drops to prevent infection, decrease inflammation, and keep your pupil dilated. You will need someone to drive you home, where you should rest for the remainder of the day. You should be able to return to normal activities within a week after your crystalens cataract procedure.
There is no risk of cataracts redeveloping in your eyes once your cataracts are removed and your crystalens has been placed. Crystalens is a one-time procedure with lifetime results.
