AAAHC Certification

Serving Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, and Orange County, California

Cataract Surgery and PRELEX surgery are performed in a surgical suite. This surgery requires a higher standard than LASIK, because cataract or PRELEX surgery requires that the instruments enter the eye. Safety and proper care are paramount.

How can a person know that the surgical facilities meet the highest standards for equipment, cleanliness, and staff qualification? Certification with either AAAHC or Medicare assures you that a surgical suite meets or exceeds strict standards that maximize the safety of your procedure.

WHAT IS THE AAAHC?

The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), also known as the Accreditation Association - is a private, non-profit organization formed in 1979 to assist ambulatory health care organizations improve the quality of care provided to patients. AAAHC is a voluntary, peer-reviewed certification. This means that actual practicing doctors come and check the center for physical setup and, more importantly, patient care, patient flow, and chart documentation. This allows a center to adopt the best practices in health care and comply with nationally-recognized standards. Cash-based surgeries like PRELEX or cataracts can be performed here. Insurance usually cannot be billed, though this accreditation is recognized by third-party payers, medical societies, and state and government agencies. The patient determines whether he or she wants to have surgery. These centers generally offer one fixed up-front price with no co-pays or deductibles.

MEDICARE CERTIFICATION

Medicare certification is performed by personnel without medical experience. This certification allows the center to bill to Medicare and other insurance providers. Insurance guidelines have to be followed with regard to the necessity of the surgery. Even though insurance may cover some of the costs, the patient is responsible for co-pays, deductibles, and upgrade fees for lenses and anything that the insurance providers reject. Cash-based surgeries can also be performed.
